ARH 619: Advanced Design Studio III – Integrated Design Concepts
Course Description
Engage in integrated building design from early concept to final detail. You’ll participate in an investigative and analytical process that employs multiple building systems, assemblies, services, variables, and performance factors to explore ways where design and construction are interconnected to successfully complete a sophisticated integrated architectural design project.
Prerequisite: ARH 608, ARH 609, ARH 613, ARH 604, ARH 605, ARH 641 (ARH 605 must be taken concurrently)
Software: Rhino, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, 3D Rendering Engine such as V-Ray or Maxwell, Climate Consultant, Climate Studio
Physical Model Making: Yes
Course Learning Outcomes
As a result of successfully completing this course, students…
-
Will be able to:
- Demonstrate evidence-based decision making in architectural design using clearly stated design and performance criteria
- Synthesize user requirements and site conditions using a research-based iterative design methodology
- Synthesize regulatory requirements, exiting requirements, and accessible design
- Provide an accessible path of travel from the sidewalk to all occupied areas in an equitable manner
- Generate and interpret climate data visualizations for project site and correlate to design parameters to reduce environmental impacts
- Develop building envelope systems and assemblies as a tectonic response appropriate for project site climate and consistent with overall design intent
- Integrate measurable building performance outcomes using energy analysis tools
- Integrate structural, environmental control, and life safety systems using clearly stated design and performance criteria
