Mimi Sullivan, Principal at Saida + Sullivan Design Partners (SSDP) and Executive Director of the School of Architecture, is proud to celebrate the Grand Opening of Hunter’s Point East-West and the Westbrook Apartments affordable family housing rehabilitations.  On September 16, 2019, SSDP, along with SF Mayor London Breed, members of the Mayors Office of Housing, the Development partners, resident council members, the design team and contractors came together to celebrate the culmination of two developments that encompassed 5 years of dedication from start to finish.

Hunter’s Point East-West apartments and the Westbrook Apartments were both acquisition/rehabs of 1950s public housing on 9 sites in the Hunters Point neighborhood.  The scope of work on all 9 sites  included the modernization of over 450 family units providing new kitchens, bathrooms, in-unit laundry, new windows and heating for thermal comfort and energy savings, new sustainable finish materials throughout to enhance indoor air quality and free onsite wi-fi supplied by the city of San Francisco. Extensive accessibility upgrades were provided on these very hilly sites to ensure more inclusive communities and to support intergenerational families. Lastly all new garbage, recycling and composting facilities were provided to improve public health on all sites.

At Hunters Point East- West, two new community facilities, along with three new services spaces with food pantries, youth programs, new picnic areas, a renovated playground and a newly designed playground which formerly was an overgrown field. With the assistance of the Warrior’s basketball team, the existing basketball court was refreshed as well.

At Westbrook Apartments, all new management and services offices were created.  In addition, a brand new community room with kitchen and local police office was designed in the space of a former maintenance wood shop on site.
