Math Placement Exam for Architecture Students
Architecture students need to determine math placement in their 1st year to stay on track with Math and Physics pre-requisites that need to be completed before the 3rd year.
The Liberal Arts department will review each case and determine whether a placement exam is needed. Students who are not transferring math course(s) from another university should take the exam. Students who have math classes that transfer do not need to take the exam. Transfer students’ placement will be determined by math courses accepted for transfer during the application review.
How to Request a Math Placement Exam
Requests are submitted by Advisors, on behalf of the students, to the Liberal Arts department at LiberalArts@academyart.edu. Student’s name, ID number, major, and contact information (email and telephone number) need to be included in the request. The Liberal Arts department will determine whether a student needs the placement test.
- Students in California take the exam in a Zoom setting.
- Students not in California take the exam with a proctor in their area.
- Students in the Bay Area can take the exam by coming on campus.
Standardized Testing Options
The Academy also accepts a variety of standardized exams in lieu of transfer credits in mathematics. These tests include ACT, AP, CLEP, IB, SAT, and A Level exams. The minimum scores required to waive a particular mathematics course based on a particular exam can be found by clicking on Practical Mathematics and Quantitative Literacy near the bottom of the Liberal Arts Education page of the Academy’s website.
