All landscape designs need an organizing concept. Where do these “big ideas” come from? Using diagrams, study models, and scaled drawings, you’ll learn to translate your design concepts into design proposals.

Course Learning Outcomes

 

  • Identify and analyze the characteristics that define a place at a variety of scales in both private and public realm
  • Apply design principles and elements in the design of outdoor places to respond to specific user/client needs and programmatic requirements through the use of plants, water, landform, and other materials
  • Identify and articulate the characteristics of archetypal elements and spaces in an outdoor place
  • Conduct a thorough site analysis, including ecological and climatic factors
  • Develop multiple and distinct concepts for projects at various scales
  • Effectively communicate design solutions through carefully executed drawings and models
  • Produce a sketchbook complete with sketches based on observations and details
