LA 219 History of the Built Environment 1: Ancient to Gothic
Learn the stories of human cultures through the environments they built. Compare buildings and landscapes across the globe from prehistory to the 14th-century and discover how we lived and shaped the spaces we built.
Prerequisite: LA 116 or LA 108 or LA 107 or AHS 116 (or 30 more more units completed)
Course Learning Outcomes
- Identify architecturally significant historic locations and employ accurate vocabulary in describing their features
- Compare built environments sharing local conditions and building strategies as well as those from different geographical and cultural origins
- Consider ethical themes in the built environment such as labor, environment and energy
- Analyze built environments of the past to discover lessons students can apply to their own lives and creative work
