
ARH 180 Design Communication 2
Learn to make digital images and architectural drawings. Using industry software, lectures information, case studies, and tutorials, you will create digital collages, diagrams and drawings to represent an idea.
Prerequisite: ARH 170 or IAD 210
Software: Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
Course Learning Outcomes
- Build measured and accurate 3d architectural digital models using Rhino software
- Organize drawing information through layer management in Rhino, Photoshop and Illustrator
- Translate 3-dimensional models into accurate and scaled 2-dimensional architectural drawings with architectural drawing conventions
- Understand and control line type and line weight and output for different scaled architectural drawings
- Distill and abstract information to produce architectural diagrams, including program and circulation diagrams
- Set up and apply shading styles and lighting settings in Rhino to produce rendered 2D and 3D architectural drawings, including sections, building elevations, site plans and interior perspectives
- Manipulate and edit images in Adobe Photoshop
- Create presentation boards and portfolio pages using Adobe InDesign
- Develop graphic compositional strategies and cartoon sets for presentations and portfolios
- Set up and apply graphic palette to visual presentations
- Utilize digital drawing as a means of speculation and exploration of design
- How to package and export files in Adobe InDesign
