LAN 609 Ecological Foundations of Design
All life depends on soil, water, and plants. You’ll gain mapping, observation, and recording skills while exploring the scientific characteristics, ecological relationships, and the tolerances for human development on natural systems.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Develop methods and strategies to accurately map and record site observations and analyses.
- Interpret the complex interrelationships that exist between soils, vegetation, climate, wildlife.
- Recognize the opportunities and constraints of basic ecological elements and systems for design.
- Describe in detail the complex set of factors that make up a “sense of place”.
- Identify cause and effect of vegetative patterns, physiographic features, wildlife habitat.
- Identify principles of landscape hydrology
