Please congratulate B.Arch student, David Ablang, who is the recipient of AIA California Mel Ferris Scholarship!
Mel Ferris, Hon. AIA, served as the Executive Vice President of the AIA California Council from 1953 until his retirement. His scholarship provides financial assistance to university-level architectural students enrolled in accredited schools of architecture in California who have demonstrated financial need and exemplary academic and design achievements.
David’s passion for architecture is deeply inspired by his personal story of resilience and the importance of community. His journey began in the Philippines, where losses and challenges hit hard. Along the tides of hardships, his grandparents provided a sanctuary that deepened his understanding of love and inclusion. Relocating to the United States as a teenager sparked a whirlwind of emotions, yet it also ignited my determination to grow and adapt.
He forged a path through academia, which led him to discover his passion for architecture, a means to craft enduring spaces that foster connection, growth, and belonging.
With AS Architecture, David is currently working on ADUs throughout California.
