Industry Advisory Board

Industry Advisory Board

School of Architecture curriculum improvements are based on several factors. Our faculty of practicing architects continually make updates to their courses to reflect the changing profession. Student work is regularly assessed to update assignments and course content to increase student success. The directors meet with an Industry Advisory Board (IAB) for input on where the profession is headed.

The Industry Advisory Board currently is comprised of the following leaders in the profession.

Lisa Cholmondeley, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, CDT, NOMA

Gensler, Director of the Center for Research on Equity, Design Manager, Principal

Lisa is committed to the idea that design happens at all stages of a project. As a Principal in Gensler’s Washington D.C. office, Lisa is passionate about space and design, and is motivated by the challenges of making ideas reality. She has been a key member in the delivery of several large, complex, mixed-use developments in the Middle East. A trained architect, Lisa has spent almost half of her career working on interiors, and strongly advocates for the development of spaces that have a shared story between the exterior and interior experience. Prior to joining the D.C. office, Lisa’s career at Gensler included experience in London, Doha, Abu Dhabi, and most recently, San Francisco.

She has taught architectural design at both Howard University and the University of Tennessee. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University, and a Master of Arts degree in History and Theory of Architecture from The Architectural Association. Additionally, Lisa is Co-Director of Gensler’s Center for Research on Equity and the Built Environment and a member of Gensler’s Global Inclusion Committee, and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.

Philip Ra, AIA, LEED AP BD+C

Flad Architects, Principal, Design Director

Philip’s passion for both architecture and technology has led him to be an innovator in the use of digital technology during building design. With more than 30 years of experience, he brings a strong background and a working knowledge in architecture, as well as an abiding interest in the ways that algorithmic and semi-autonomous computation can validate and strengthen architects’ design concepts. Integrating these digital instruments during the design process refines the design to develop optimal building conditions, enhancing the goals and objectives of the project.

Human intuition and the collaboration among designers, planners, clients, and other team members guide design, and I view technology as a partner that can aid that process. Human collaboration can advance and propel architecture much further with the right application of digital technology as a design tool. That’s always been my fascination.
