LAN 712/412 Landscape Architecture Site Design Studio

 

You will build upon various skills and knowledge gained in previous courses, and collaboratively create public outdoor spaces that not only integrate green infrastructure but are equitable and accessible to all. Focus will be placed on exploring each step of the planning and design process to achieve these goals. (This course is cross-listed with LAN 412.)

Course Learning Outcomes

 

  • Identify the physical, environmental, historical and social factors surrounding a particular site based on a thorough site inventory and analysis.
  • Identify and illustrate the details of how the many types of green infrastructure function both individually and as a system and describe the resulting environmental , economic and social benefits.
  • Design flexible public spaces that actively contribute to and educate the public about reducing our collective carbon footprint by incorporating principles and details of sustainable design.
  • Research and develop multiple sustainable concept alternatives for consideration and evaluation.
  • Effectively defend and clearly communicate rationale for sustainable planning and design proposals through a wide array of drawing types, models, and writing.
  • During the planning and design process, develop and illustrate the details of appropriate sustainable technology in order to create an effective green infrastructure system.
  • Collaborate throughout the planning and design process in order to synthesize research, observations, and analysis into relevant and compelling proposals.
