Student Work Example

High School Summer Program

This is a tuition-free class.

AE ARH 10 Architecture and the City

Course Description

Architects ask big questions: as online shopping grows, brick-and-mortar stores close. And as remote work becomes prevalent, office buildings sit empty. How can we repurpose the empty buildings? Dream big and explore ideas for urban design strategies. Collaborate and fabricate hands-on creations in our Makerspace. Through field trips, experience San Francisco through the eyes of an architect. This course must be taken concurrently with AE ARH 40 Architecture Maker Lab.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Create a proposal for revitalizing the Union Square area of San Francisco
  2. Collaborate to brainstorm and refine design proposals
  3. Communicate design ideas using physical models and sketches
  4. Use an iterative design process incorporating feedback to make revisions
  5. Contribute to creating a Studio Culture by participating in design critiques
