November 8, 2019
Sameena Sitabkhan, full-time undergraduate faculty member was recently invited through the US State Dept Arts Envoy program to conduct two design workshops for high school students in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Balkans.
The workshops aimed to show how design can be a tool to foster change in a community by starting conversations and promoting agency among local youth. Over the course of a few days, using recycled materials, local high school students designed and built small “parklets” that contained air quality monitors to draw attention to the poor air quality in their towns.
Sameena Sitabkhan is the B.Lab coordinator at The School of Architecture and teaches the thesis level design build sequence and the second year studio. She is a practicing architect and a partner at Sideproject Studio.
