ASLA-NCC Stanford Pre-Lecture Social in the Grove

Join ASLA-NCC prior to the Stanford Lecture featuring Mark Rios on 5/8, 5pm-6:15pm for a free social event. Food and drinks will be provided. Parking is free at The Oval after 6PM otherwise park on Roth Way or Lasuen Street. Cal train is a 1 mile walk.

The theme of this year’s lecture series is “Architecture of Humanity”.  We purposefully selected designers who believe Architecture has a much greater responsibility beyond aesthetics.  This year’s speakers share the fundamental belief that Design has the power to enrich the world around us.  They prioritize those projects with the potential for the greatest positive social impact, and strive to promote justice and human dignity.  They believe in the power of humane and respectful environments to transform neighborhoods and elevate the lives of individuals and families.  They employ a human-centered approach at all scales, deriving inspiration from the human experience rather than any fixed design dogma.

Formally trained in both architecture and landscape architecture, Mark Rios has long seen those two disciplines as inseparable. He founded the architecture firm Rios Associates in 1985 with a singular vision: to imagine, design, and build complete environments.
