Required Undergraduate Course: Based on explorations of career paths aligned with your values and passions, you create applications for internships, scholarships, graduate schools that include resume, cover letter, personal statement, and portfolio. You work with a mentor to practice interview skills. Salary research and job search best practices are also covered. LA 485 is required for all undergraduate students who have completed 60 units.
Midpoint Advising for Undergraduate Students: The purpose of the Midpoint Check-In is for us to get to know you as you conclude your sophomore design studio. We invite you to tell us about yourself, reflect on your progress, share your ambitions, and seek support. Your department directors and faculty members will review your work and offer advising on academic and career goals.
Advising for Graduating Students: At the conclusion of the undergraduate program, all students receive individualized guidance from directors and faculty. The culminating studio project is typically reviewed for an assessment of program learning outcomes. You will receive guidance as you transition to the profession or to graduate school including feedback on your resume and portfolio (or work samples).
Career Counseling: One-on-one advising sessions with Licensing Advisor, IPAL Advisor, or directors including portfolio and resume review.
Professional Networking: Spring Show Industry Day, architecture firm tours, job referrals by directors, faculty, and alumni.
Internship for Course Credit: You can earn course credit through internships in ARH 500 (undergraduate) or ARH 900 (graduate). Faculty teaching the course offers guidance each week to help you make the most of the internship experience.
Portfolio Course: You have the option to take portfolio courses offered by the Graphic Design department. You will develop a comprehensive print and digital visual system for portfolio, letterhead, business cards, and website. GR 460 is for undergraduate students and GR 700 is for graduate students.
