U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon®

2020 Design Challenge 

This is a collegiate competition for energy-efficient, renewable buildings. In this Challenge that spans one to two academic semesters, students will get hands-on experience working on multidisciplinary teams to envision the future of the built environment. Complete details are available in the Design Challenge Rules.

• November 5, 2019 – All Design Challenge participating teams must complete the team application.
• September 2019 to March 2020 – Webinars and building science training are offered while teams work on their designs.
• April 17-19, 2020 – Finalist teams complete their project submissions and deliver presentations to industry leaders at NREL in Golden, Colorado.
