Fall 2014 Lecture Series: Snohetta

Snøhetta (Norwegian: Snøhetta arkitektur landskap AS) is an international architecture, landscape architecture, interior design and Brand Design office based in Oslo, Norway and New York City. Snøhetta practices a self-defined trans-disciplinary process in which different professionals – from architects to visual artists, philosophers to sociologists – exchange roles in order to explore differing perspectives without the prejudice of convention. Within our office, Snøhetta emphasizes an open exchange between roles and disciplines – architects, landscape architects, interior architects, and graphic designers collaborate in an integrated process, ensuring multiple voices are represented from the onset of the project. When working with Clients, this approach continues when we challenge clients to become architects and architects to become clients. When interested parties come together as equals, we create a place to mutually understand each other’s objective and interests. Transpositioning promotes the positive benefits of moving out of one’s comfort zone. It defies narrow-minded thinking and encourages holistic approaches.

Michelle Delk serves Snøhetta as Director of Landscape Architecture to further their multi-disciplinary collaborations, provide strategic vision, and to continue advancing the subtleties and complexities of the public environment. Clear thinking and collaborative principles characterize her leadership of complex design projects that emphasize social and experiential opportunities. Through personal and spatial interaction she believes people can discover inspiration to better themselves, others, and the environments within which societies exist.
