Phoebe Schenkar

Undergraduate Faculty

Over ten years at EHDD, Phoebe Schenkar has worked on projects at a variety of scales including overseeing construction on a $100 million Ecosystems expansion to the California Science Center. She served as the project lead for the award-winning, LEED Platinum certified Lands End Lookout and Visitor Center and the 34,000 sq. ft. Pacific Seas Aquarium at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma, WA. Phoebe mentored almost a decade’s worth of interns and junior designers and values engagement in a larger dialogue about the design industry and the architectural profession. She participates in may realms of design leadership through her work on the Board of the Center for Architecture and Design, and through teaching and sitting on reviews at schools around the Bay Area – from Academy of Art University to the California College of the Arts as well as at elementary and high schools.

I embrace a human centered, iterative process of design, bringing together diverse interests in service of a common goal and I’m unafraid to ask the hard questions while listening carefully to the answers in order to help organizations visualize their needs – and when called for – design buildings that gracefully accommodate them.

While much of my expertise is in the early phases – design strategy, programming and concept design – I’m a generalist in every sense of the word. While well versed in the details and technical complexities that can make or break a project, I’m also passionate about sustainability and believe in using the Earth’s resources responsibly and reusing them whenever possible.”
